What happens in a virtual coworking room

Virtual coworking is independent work with other people present online. In MySession, participants enter a room from wherever they are, share a small intention, and work on different tasks during the same timed stage. A check-in at the end makes the next step easier to see.

You can keep your task list and the room timeline in view while you work. Chat, camera, microphone, and shared music are available where the room permits them, but the room is designed for doing the work rather than talking through it.

Choose a room for the work you have

An always-open room is useful when waiting for a booking would delay the first step. A scheduled group session is useful when the appointment itself helps you commit. Look at the session format and current room rules before joining; a 25-minute block can help you start, while a 50-minute or longer block gives complex work more continuity.

A freelancer can finish a client draft, a student can work through a problem set, and a remote employee can clear an administrative backlog in the same session. Shared presence does not require a shared project.

Coworking or body doubling?

The terms overlap. Body doubling describes the focus technique: someone else is present while you do your own task. Virtual coworking describes the online room and group format that makes that presence available. In both cases, the work remains yours.

If you want a simple explanation of the method, start with the body doubling guide. If you want to compare room formats for a remote workday, continue to the remote-worker page.

Frequently asked questions

Is virtual coworking a meeting?

No. People work independently in a shared focus block; a short intention or check-in is not a status meeting.

Can I join a room without a team?

Yes. Individuals can join available group rooms or choose a scheduled session.

Do I need my camera on?

Room policies vary. Check the camera and participation rules on the session card before joining.
